FWGA 2012 Monterey Invitational Tournament

Submitted by Della Gutierrez, FWGA Tournament Director

Do you long to get away from it all and spend a few days with some old friends and meet some new ones? Have you ever played any of the courses on the Monterey Peninsula? Del Monte or Poppy Hills?  Well if not, it's about time for you do something for yourself and pack a bag, hop in the car and go pick up your friend and head for Monterey for three days of golf, gals and wonderful fun in the sun.
FWGA planned this three day invitational event, and you may bring your best buddy who may not be a FWGA member.  You can bring your husband or main squeeze to these events, or just leave them at home to feed the dog & cats!  You may choose to just play one or two days, or hang in for all three.
Picture this, on Saturday September 15th, which is my birthday by the way (all gifts and or adult beverage purchased will be accepted!), you will tee off at San Juan Oaks for our Rally for the Cure awareness event.  After golf, we head to the Best Western on Abrego St. where we have reserved a private room equipped with a kitchen, and will toast those who tore it up on the course and have a snack or two.
When you rise on Sunday September 16th you will need to have a hearty breakfast because you are setting your GPS to Del Monte Golf Course.
On Sunday night before retiring, take a few minutes to stretch or soak in a hot tub because on Monday morning September 17, the icing on the cake and the cherry on top is Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach.  If you have never played Poppy Hills I would definitely put this on your list.  I played it for the first time last year and the course is truly a blast and one not to be missed.
Do this for yourself, your sanity and overall well being.  Below are the details for the hotels rooms we have blocked, mention the Fore Women Golf Association when booking and I can't wait to see all of you with your best buds or the S.O.'s!
All hotel reservations are made by the individual and not by the FWGA.

Copperopolis Weekend Getaway

Each year between Easter and Mother's Day, FWGA has an away weekend in Copperopolis.  We usually try to play SaddleCreek and Greenhorn.  Members stay in houses they rent for the weekend, cottages at the golf course or hotels in Angels Camp.  It is a great start to the golf season.  This year was no exception.  Here is the write up for the first day of the tournament.

Day one of our SaddleCreek away tournament was rewarded with fantastic weather. No rain, no jackets, just lots of sun and fun. Most of you know that this is my favorite, lady friendly course in California and before the weekend was finished it had lived up to its reputation. The winners were as follows;

We thank Betty McCabe and Sally Panella for the registration and Sandy Gonzales recorded all with her camera.  To see all the pictures from the weekend check them out SaddleCreek Pictures. A very special thanks to Liz Riddle, Sandy Gonzales and Shirley Walker who hosted the after golf awards ceremony and cocktail party.

One of my guests sampled all the delicious food and tried a Cosmo, Lemon Drop and Chocolatini! I think I can safely say a good time was had by all. As Bo Rothchild said "see you all in Monterey."

After leaving the cocktail and appetizer party, some members ventured into Angels Camp for dinner, others went back to the SaddleCreek club house for dinner and some had a putting contest back at the Saddlecreek putting green followed by a competitive game of Mexican Train Dominoes.

Day Two dawned with beautiful weather and another lovely day.  New teams and new game!  Onward to the Course.  Bo and Linda Rothchild were the directors for the tournament and chose 2 person best ball.

The first place team was, Linda and Bo Rothchild, Kelly Andrews and Tami Waddell with a team total of 118.

The second place team was Dee & Pat Tuohy, and Judy and Ray GIles with a team total of 120.
