2014 Annual Golf Tournament Bling!

The Annual Fore Women Golf Association annual golf tournament “Swing with Bling” was held on October 19 at the Dublin Ranch Golf Club.   What a beautiful day for golfing and having a good time with fellow golfers all blinged out!!!   The weather could not have been more perfect to get the members excited about decorating golf carts and seeing who could have the best blingy costume.  Check out the great pictures on our Facebook page or Event Photos!!!

The day started with registration, raffle tickets, silent auction bids, pictures and a putting contest.  Golfers then decorated their carts and donned their bling to get ready for the shotgun start.  The golfers were off to enjoy golfing in three flights which in the end all came in with very close scores but most of all just enjoyed golfing.

The day was complete with a wonderful round of drinks and appetizers while waiting for all the foursomes to come in for dinner.   Dublin Ranch provided a wonderful dinner before the awards and recognition were presented by club president Della Gutierrez.   During the presentations raffle prizes were given out to members with many great golfing gift certificates, cookies, homemade scarfs  and other goodies won by all (well almost all!!!).

Della recognized the many, many member volunteers who help all year long with events and really make the club what it is.   The volunteers were given a nice golfing gift to say” thank you”from the board and all the members for the time you give throughout the year.   Della then announced the members who received special recognition for their achievements.   Please congratulate the following members:

Kristina Ramos – Club Champion and Birdie Champion

Della Gutierrez – Players Champion

Faith Ho – Most improved player

Cheryl Ramirez – Volunteer of the Year

April Kenyon – Member of the Year

A big thank you to all the members who donated the wonderful gifts for the silent auction which raised money for our charities.   The bidding was fierce and fun was had by all to raise money for First Tee of Oakland.  Thank you all for your purchase of raffle tickets and the silent auction to help us support this great organization for young golfers.

Hole in One for Wendy Ngoy

Congratulations to Wendy Ngoy on her first Hole in One at Callippe Golf Course in the 13th Annual Thoratec Golf Tournament on September 27, 2014.

On Hole #4, 122 yrds, Wendy swung her #7 iron and watched in awe as her ball disappeared in the hole.  Needless to say, her three male partners were excited for her and I am sure just a bit envious!

2014 Poppy Hills Tournament

On Monday 9/15/14, the Fore Women Golf Group had an opportunity to play the newly renovated Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, CA as the third tournament of the weekend.  Poppy Hills underwent an extensive renovation beginning in March of 2013 centered around water conservation, primarily by improving irrigation and drainage. Robert Trent Jones Jr. returned to Poppy Hills with his design firm, and created a firm, fast and fun course that unfolds seamlessly through the stunning Del Monte Forest.  WOW it was pretty!

The weather was fantastic for the tournament format of a Cha-Cha-ChaIn the 4-Man Cha-Cha-Cha, each member of the team plays his or her ball throughout. But a 3-hole rotation exists for determining how many net scores are used to create the team score. On the first hole (cha), the one low ball counts as the team score. On the second hole (cha-cha), the two low balls combined count as the team score. On the third hole (cha-cha-cha), the three low balls combined count as the team score. The rotation starts over on the fourth hole.

Awards went to the first place team of Sarah Good, Kristina Ramos, Jan Moura and Kelly Tague with a score of 124. Second place team was awarded to Kay Middleton, Chris Jensen, Della Gutierrez, and April Kenyon with a score of 131. We also awarded Low Gross to Kristina Ramos with an 87! Low Net went to Sarah Good with a 73.  We had 2 Closest to the pin! On hole #6, Sarah Good was 8’ 8.5” from the pin and on hole #11 Ray Giles was only 2’ 10.5” from the pin!  Kristina Ramos had a birdie and Chris Jensen had a Chip In.

Congratulations to all and thank you to Tournament Director Therese Johnson for a great outing!

2014 Monarch Bay Tournament

On Saturday, August 16, there was no need to ask for better weather.  It was an absolutely beautiful day at Monarch Bay.  The sun was shining, the breezes were mild, the fox was checking out the cart goodies, and the golfers were swinging in partnership with the wonderful girls from The 1st Tee of Oakland.

The 18-hole tournament directors were Linda Dobb and Judith Coleman-Cohen.  The format was “Mutt & Jeff.”  Net scores were obtained and totaled for each team on all par 3s and par 5s.

The 1st Place winning team was Carol Papke, Wendy Ngoy, and Kelly Tague with a net combined of 93.  2nd Place went to the team of Liz Riddle, Sandy Gonzales, and Della Guiterrez, with a 95.  Both Low Gross and Low Net went to Jen Shaull.  Jen’s gross score for the day was 83, and her net score was 67.  Great job Jen!

One of our 1st Tee girls, Jada Delaney, won the “Closest to the Pin” contest.  Her ball on the 10th hole landed 8’2” from the pin…very inspirational.  It was also reported that Jada hit a 241 yard drive on the 11th hole … even more inspirational!

Della Guiterrez and our 1st Tee Player, Jada Delaney,  had the only reported Birdies for the day, but not to be outdone, Jen Shull shot an Eagle on the 2nd hole.  Unfortunately no chip-ins were reported.

Finally, our Director of Tournaments, Liz Riddle, put together random “Combined Teams,” consisting of players from both the 9-Hole and 18-Hole groups.  Net scores from each team were then totaled and the winning Combined Team was Mary Beth Hodge, Teri Erickson, Judith Coleman-Cohen, and Myrese Jackson from The 1st Tee of Oakland.  We also had two winners of cookie bouquets, made and donated by Liz Riddle.  Both prizes were awarded via a drawing to 9-hole players, Mary Beth Hodge and Yvonne Lee.

A huge thanks goes out to everyone who participated in both the 9-hole and 18-hole tournaments.  Congratulations to the winners and be sure to check out the pictures on FWGA Facebook.

All-in-all, it was a great golfing event, and we hope even more of you will join us next year.
