FWGA'S 2016 BLUE ROCK, EAST TOURNAMENT- SUNDAY, MAY 22

FWGA’s May tournament was held on Sunday, May 22, at Blue Rock Golf Course in Vallejo.  Twenty-four enthusiastic players making up six teams turned out on a breezy cool day of fun on the East Course.  The format of play was Cha-Cha-Cha ~ a new game for some of the players… so after a bit of last minute touch-ups to the scorecards, play started on time and the pace of play was great.  The format consisted of the lowest net score of each team on the first hole, the two lowest net scores on the second hole, and the three lowest scores on the third hole. On the fourth hole it was back to the one lowest score and so forth throughout the round. The lowest team score was the winner.

First place winners went to Terri Malatesta, Therese Johnson, Sally Panella and Ruta Rudistill.

After a great day on the links, Joan McCarthy announced the winners in the cafe before our drive home.  Special thanks to all the volunteers who made it a wonderful day at the course: Joan McCarthy and Loraine Ward Theroux, Tournament Hosts; Alleen Hodgkin, Tournament Director; Liz Riddle and Pat White handled scoring; Alleen Hodgkin and Mindi Canner on registration, and Betty McCabe served as photographer.

2016 SADDLECREEK TOURNAMENT-SUNDAY, MAY 1ST

What a day!   Our Saddlecreek tournament started out with a lot of crazy racing around due to some course confusion.  Once everyone got to their holes, it was beautiful.   No wind, not too much heat,  just a perfect golf day.

The format for the day was called “Mystery Partner”, a new game made up by Tami Waddell.  Basically, everyone plays their own game.  Tami had made up the two partner teams randomly in each flight to equalize the course handicaps.  There were two flights.  When the players came in Tami combined their net scores to make up their team net score.  It wasn’t until then that players found out who their partner was for the day.

For Flight A

1st place – Dee Tuohy/Pat Tuohy (guest)

2nd place – Bonifacio Perez (guest)/ Pat White

3rd place – Liz Riddle/Della Guiterrez

For Flight B

1st place – Cheryl Ramirez/Sandie Prairie

2nd Place – Kelly Tague/Mindi Canner

3rd Place – Nancy Lojacono/Jayne Bunce

Closest to the Pin was also done by flights

On Hole 4 Flight A – Liz Riddle with 6’8”, Flight B Mindi Canner with 10”9

On Hole 11 Flight A – Pat Touhy with 40”

Since no one got on Hole 11 for Flight B, we gave the gift certificate to the Flight B first time tournament player with the lowest score for the day, Nancy Lojacono.

Chip In’s- Pat Touhy had a chip in.

Birdies- Liz Riddle and Tami Waddell had 2 birdies each and Mindi Canner had one.

At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed the taco bar before their drive home.

All in all a fun day on the course with new friends and old.  Thanks to Tami Waddell, tournament coordinator, for setting up a great tournament!

2016 SEQUOIA WOODS TOURNAMENT

FWGA’s first away golf trip was held Saturday, April 30th at Sequoia Woods in Arnold.  The weather was a little windy and brisk, but otherwise it was a beautiful day.  There were 27 players and the tournament game played was 4 Suits.  Each player drew a card with one of the suits and if their card matched the card in the envelope left on the hole that was the team score for that hole.  It was a fun format because no one knew if their score would count until the end of that hole.

First place went to Julie Campiotti, Terri Malatesta, Deb and Ray Ortega.  Second place was Alleen Hodgkin, Mindi Canner, Jim and Janis Salvi.  Third place was a card off.  Dee and Pat Touey, Ray and Judy Giles won over Liz Riddle, Joan MaCarthy, Tami Waddell and Sandy Prairie.

Low Gross went to member April Kenyon with an 85, while guest Ray Giles was 81.  Low net was Della Gutierrez at 66.

Closest to the pin, Flight A, was Tami Waddell, and Flight B, was Joan McCarthy.   There were 4 Birdies for the day;  Liz Riddle 2, Terri Malatesta 2, and Tami Waddell 1.

After the game,  everyone gathered at the house shared by Liz, Della, Cheryl, and Alleen.  Liz made up some of her famous cocktails.  Cheryl provided the munchies.   Della, who is a chef made the most delicious dinner of pulled pork sandwiches, coldslaw, baked beans, greens and corn on the cob……so good!!  For dessert, Alleen made sweet rum cakes and of course, Liz's golf-designed cookies.   Alice Schultz recorded the fun as the event photographer.

Great fun playing golf with a wonderful group of FWGA ladies and their guests!

Thanks again to everyone who made this such a great event, especially to our tournament coordinators Betty McCabe and Sally Panella.

FWGA Member Advances in the NCGA SR Net Championship

Congratulations to Kelly Tague who will play in the NCGA Sr Net Championship at Poppy Hills in June.

She advanced to the championship by qualifying at Poppy Ridge Zinfandel/Merlot flight with a net 67! She states she would “never have advanced but my putter was hot, hot, hot!"  Everything went in, saving my bacon.”

Kelly strongly encourages members of FWGA to sign up for the Women’s Net Amateur and the Women’s Four-ball Tourneys as they are open to all, no matter your index.
